A customer brought in a 2011 Infiniti QX56 complaining of a whine type noise coming from the engine. Our Infiniti tech isolated the noise coming from the side of the engine where the timing chain system resides. The noise was heard best from the area of the high pressure fuel pump. The frequency of the noise increased with the engine’s RPM. Since the noise got louder with increased engine speed, the cause was attributed to the timing chain system.
The whine noise coming from the 2011 Infiniti QX56 was fixed by replacing the Bank 2 (B2) oil jet, the 2 timing chains, the 2 crankshaft sprockets, along with all of the guides. All seals, o-rings, and gaskets were replaced as well. Infiniti is aware of this common problem and has provided an Oil Jet Remover/Installer Kit J-51269 used to remove, inspect, and install the oil jet component.
